Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

  • Why should I add a links section on my website?

You add a links section on your website so that you can 'trade' links with other websites. Nothing comes for free so in order to have your website added on other websites you, in return, have to add their site on yours too.

  • Why should I go for a paid account since I can get all the links for free?

When a search engine crawler indexes a website's content, it saves all the links. For every link which points to your website, the search engine gives you some credit. If a reciprocal link is detected then the crawler reduces this credit, otherwise you get the maximum credit out of that link. Hence, if you need even better results it is strongly recommended to build one-way links.

  • Why do I need to create inbound (incoming) links from other websites to mine?

Each website that links to yours is like a vote, stating that your website is important to the net. The more inbound links from other sites you have, the better. Exchanging links is the #1 priority on the list when it comes to search engine optimisation. The following is taken from the Google website.

«PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.»

  • Is IndexGuy Network a Link Farm or Free For All (FFA) ?

A link farm is a Web page that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites. IndexGuy is not a Link Farm or FFA! IndexGuy is a links management tool which offers you the chance to exchange links with thousands of members (and daily increasing!) as soon as you join. However, there is no need to waste time on those email conversations with other webmasters begging for a link exchange. By default you get all the available incoming links. If you don't want to keep some of them, simply use our Exclusion Filtering System to exclude specific links or categories of links.
